Jeff

We may have lost Jeff but we haven’t lost Jesus. My big brother went to be with Jesus. I’m heartbroken. He was a great father, husband, teacher and friend. I can’t imagine life without his guidance. I looked to him as a role model on how to raise a family, how to be a husband and teacher. Jeff always had the right words to say. He thought deeply on his faith and always looked to his Savior for encouragement and strength. His purpose was greater…

2021 #blessed

Romans 15:13 13 May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. Wow, 2021 was a tough year. The Lord put many opportunities in front of us to show our trust in Him that’s for sure. The move from Illinois back to Wisconsin has been full of ups and downs. Finding a house – getting our belongings to our new house was so stressful. Leaving…

So Long, Farewell…

To my Illinois Lutheran family, Thirteen years is a long time but it feels just like yesterday my family came to Crete and joined the Illinois Lutheran family. My memory is not very good but I know there are many moments of celebration that I will never forget. We’ve also been through some of the most difficult times of our lives. We witnessed strength of faith that rarely has the opportunity to show itself.  Over the years there are 4 passages that kept popping up…

I Don’t Hate What’s Not Dreadful

I went biking with my wife today. It was a beautiful spring day and I knew she would love it if I asked her to go. The thing is. She doesn’t go for a leisurely stroll through the woods. This girl likes to put in at least 10 miles of rolling hills at a high pace. For a couple years now I would get out of biking with her because she would destroy me on the course. I’d be huffing and puffing up the hills…

Have we really given up on kindness?

This was a thought I’ve been having for the last few months. Posts I read, seeing some of my students give up on being kind have kept me thinking. Why does it seem that people cheer on the one who gives up on kindness? Why do people think you’re strong when you’re mean? Obviously not an easy question to answer. I have some initial thoughts on the matter but decided to dig in a bit. Here’s what I found to be a good definition. Kindness…

What’s the Big Deal About Being a Grandparent?

A few hours Hi Guys!!! 1 Month “So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.” – 1 Corinthians 13:1 It’s hard to explain, but I’m going to give it my best shot. I’m sure some of this will sound like the ramblings of an old man. As Mary and I look back at our lives our greatest joys have been our children. The blessings we’ve received because of them are countless. They are truly a blessing from…

So, That Just Happened…

Once a year hundreds of Lutherans gather in New Ulm, MN to celebrate the graduating class of Martin Luther College. There are over 5,000 colleges and I’m sure they all have great celebrations for their graduates, but I bet what happens in New Ulm is like no other graduation. Well, honestly it’s the service after  graduation that is life changing. You see Martin Luther College is a teacher training college for our Wisconsin Synod schools. It’s a small private college that trains our future called…

Nice Fish Tank!

The 9 Best Things About Social Media For Communication Shhhh… Listen! Do You Hear The Sound Of Communication on Social Media? Coming up with a title is apparently very important if you want your blog to be read. There are many websites out there that help to generate some very interesting and thought-provoking titles, but I think nice fish tank says exactly what I wanted to say. You won’t have any idea what this post is about by the title, but it’s the first example I thought…

Shocking News at ILHS

So, a very unusual thing happened in my classroom last week. My students surprised me. I was having trouble with them not being engaged and excited about their coursework. We had gone through most of my curriculum and things were winding down. Maybe it was that they were just so efficient, but I think it was more that they didn’t really care to do their best. I didn’t do a good enough job at developing relevancy. I probably had about 40 Chromebooks in different states of…
